PUBLIC EYE
Jackson out of hospital

October 2, 2008

Janet Jackson was released from a Montreal hospital just two hours after she arrived, a spokeswoman for the facility said Tuesday, but it was still not clear why she was admitted.

The 42-year-old singer became “suddenly ill” and was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital on Monday night shortly before her scheduled concert in Montreal, which was canceled.

Representatives for Jackson would not elaborate on her condition Tuesday, simply saying that she was ill and was “recuperating.”

THE NEXT BIG REUNITE

Phish is getting back together.

The Vermont-bred jam band, which disbanded in 2004, is planning three dates next March in Hampton, Virginia. A notice posted on the band's Web site says Phish will play March 6-8 at the Hampton Coliseum. The Web site says more 2009 dates will be announced later.

Phish was among the nation's top touring acts when it called it quits in 2004.

'TOP CHEF' GETS LOCAL

A local chef will be a contestant on “Top Chef” when the fifth season of the competitive cooking show premieres next month on the Bravo cable network. Richard Sweeney, 27, is an executive sous chef at Confidential Restaurant & Loft in the Gaslamp Quarter. It is not the first reality-show connection for Confidential. Andrew Firestone of ABC's “The Bachelor” was one of the original investors.

Originally from Long Island, N.Y., Sweeney is one of 17 “cheftestants” who will be competing for $100,000 and other prizes when “Top Chef: New York” begins airing Nov. 12 on Bravo. Chef Brian Malarkey of the Oceanaire Seafood Room in downtown San Diego was a contestant in show's third season. He made it to the final four.
