Waters family

Among the most prominent families in Grossmont High athletics are the Waters brothers.

The latest is Desean Waters, a sophomore, who plays running back and defensive back for the Foothillers football team this fall. During basketball season, he'll play guard for the Grossmont varsity.

Jeff Waters, 20, oldest of the siblings, is now a running back at Southwestern College.

Khalid Waters was a football and basketball all-leaguer for the Foothillers before accepting an NAIA football scholarship to Midland Lutheran College in Nebraska, where he is the team's top kickoff returner.

Still to come is Calvin Waters, a seventh-grader at Parkway Middle School.

Alumni report

Freshman Jamie Dale, a graduate of Steele Canyon High, has made an impact for the football team at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, S.D. – and not as a geologist. Dale is a sports medicine major. The 5-foot-9, 165-pound Dale is the leading rusher (109.5 yards per game) and top scorer (16 points per game) in the eight-member Dakota Athletic Conference two games into the season.

Another Steele Canyon alum, Arlin Taylor, a 5-foot-9, 175-pound sophomore cornerback at Willamette University in Salem, Ore., has helped the Bearcats to a 2-0 start. Taylor has two fumble recoveries, an interception and 11 tackles. He made 32 tackles in 10 games as a freshman.

Poway High graduate Donnie McKillop of Middlebury College was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week. The sophomore completed 27 of 31 passes for 344 yards, both career highs, in the Panthers' 42-28 win over Bowdoin. McKillop, the league's 2007 Rookie of the Year, ran for 34 yards and tossed a 10-yard touchdown pass.

Former La Jolla High standout Grayson Moyer, who graduated from Humboldt State last spring, signed to play with the Alaska Dream of the American Basketball Association.

Hall of Fame

The San Pasqual High Athletic Hall of Fame will hold its induction ceremony at 5 p.m. tomorrow in the school's multimedia room. Inductees will be introduced during halftime of tomorrow night's varsity football game against Rancho Buena Vista.

The class of 2008: Teri McKeever, Olympic swimming coach; Erik Meek, NCAA basketball champion with Duke;

Shannon MacMillan, Olympic and World Cup soccer champion;

Bob Woodhouse, former Eagles football coach; Gordon Marsh, longtime San Pasqual athletic director; and Mike “Casey” Basalo, voice of Eagles football.

The event is open to the public. For information, call (760) 521-1959.

Coaching move

Orange Glen High has hired Sam Kristensen to run the Patriots baseball program. Kristensen, an assistant last season, will take over for former head coach Steven Rohlmeier.
