Inglewood mayor pleads innocent to corruption

ASSOCIATED PRESS

2:00 p.m. July 24, 2008

LOS ANGELES – Inglewood's mayor has pleaded not guilty to corruption.

Roosevelt Dorn, 72, entered the plea Thursday in a Los Angeles court to charges that include conflict-of-interest and misappropriating public funds.

His lawyer says the 72-year-old mayor will fight the case “100 percent.”

Dorn got a $500,000 low-interest loan from Inglewood in 2004, only months after he voted to extend a city housing incentive program to include elected officials.

Prosecutors say he used some of the money to pay off his home and banked the rest.

If convicted, Dorn could face up to four years and eight months in prison.
