Murder charges for parents of malnourished toddler

ASSOCIATED PRESS

LOS ANGELES – Murder charges have been filed against a Pomona couple whose malnourished 2-year-old daughter weighed only 19 pounds when she died two months ago.

Los Angeles prosecutors say 28-year-old Lupe Lopez and 27-year-old Gabriel Garcia were arrested and charged Wednesday with the death of Isabelle Garcia. District attorney's office spokeswoman Jane Robison says bail has been set at $1 million each.

The toddler was found unresponsive in her bed May 19 at the couple's home in a Pomona trailer park. The coroner says malnutrition was the primary cause of death.
