FRESNO – A judge is ordering a comatose woman put back on life support after her family objected to the removal of her feeding tubes.
Fresno County Superior Court Judge Debra Kazanjian on Wednesday ordered 46-year-old Janet Rivera's feeding tubes reinserted pending a hearing next week about her long-term care.
Rivera has been without food or water since July 14, when Fresno County coroner Dr. David Hadden had the tubes removed to end her suffering. She had a heart attack in February 2006 and never regained consciousness.
Rivera's husband, Jesus Rivera, was removed as his wife's conservator June 17 and replaced by Hadden, who says he was following the medical advice of Rivera's doctors.
