CHULA VISTA: The Southwestern College School of Arts and Communication will present an event it's calling “Sunday Afternoon in the Park With George.”
The outdoor summer concert and picnic Sunday will feature music by George M. Cohan, George Gershwin and others. A performance by the college's award-winning concert choir will be directed by Ron Gillis and accompanied by David Castel de Oro.
Songs the choir will perform include “Some Enchanted Evening,” “Bali Ha'i,” “Give My Regards to Broadway,” “The Yankee Doodle Boy” and “You're a Grand Old Flag.”
Concert-goers can bring lawn chairs, blankets and refreshments and have a picnic at 4 p.m. before the concert begins at 5 p.m.
The college is at 900 Otay Lakes Road. Cost is $10 for general admission, $7 for students and seniors, and $5 for those in groups of more than 20. Parking is free.

Multiuse bridge linkingtrails to be dedicated
BONITA: The public is invited to celebrate the ribbon-cutting and dedication ceremony of the Mary Augustine Bridge at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Sweetwater Summit Park in Bonita.
The 264-foot, multiuse bridge connects trails between Conduit Road and Sweetwater Regional Park. A new rubberized surface allows the public to enjoy a safe way to cross over state Route 125.
The bridge will be dedicated to Augustine, a longtime Bonita resident and co-founder of the San Diego Trails Council, for her efforts for equestrians and trails.

Chicken dinner planned to herald 2011 centennial
CHULA VISTA: Mayor Cheryl Cox and the Chula Vista City Council will host an event Aug. 2 called “Col. Dickinson's Country Chicken Dinner.”
The Saturday event will be in Bradley Hall at Community Congregational Church, 276 F St. Dinner seatings are available at 4 and 5 p.m., with guest presentations at 5 and 6 p.m.
Col. Dickinson's Country Chicken Dinner is a pre-centennial commemoration of Chula Vista's upcoming 100-year celebration in 2011. Proceeds from ticket sales will help fund Chula Vista's centennial book publication.
Guest speaker Dick Reynolds, retired general manager of the Sweetwater Authority, will discuss the Sweetwater Dam's role in Chula Vista's history.
The event will include an antique show and sale. Peter Watry and Frank Roseman will autograph their newly published photographic history, “Images of America: Chula Vista.” The book can be bought for $20 at the event, with proceeds going to the Heritage Museum. Local author Virginia Loh also has been invited.
Attendance is limited to 200 visitors. The $25 ticket includes the chicken dinner.

Class to help businesses to follow disabilities act
SAN YSIDRO: The San Ysidro Business Association will host a workshop at 9 a.m. tomorrow to help local business owners meet the requirements of the Americans With Disabilities Act.
